Investigations on breathing behavior and catalytic properties of bimetallic metal-organic frameworks

Materials, which contain two or more types of metals, often show synergistic properties that are caused by interactions of different metal types in close vicinity. In particular, for the development of heterogeneous catalysts often mixtures of metals are used to increase the conversion, yield or selectivity. This concept is also known in the field of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and used in different ways to synthesize bi- or multimetallic metal-organic frameworks. The PhD studies aim at the synthesis of bimetallic metal-organic frameworks, in which two different metal types are distributed statistically over crystallographically equivalent metal framework positions. Subsequently, the resulting influences on the breathing behavior of the structures and their catalytic activity as heterogeneous catalysts in liquid phase reactions in dependence on the metal combinations and ratios is investigated.
