Welcome to the research group of Wolfgang Kleist

Our research focuses on the development of new materials for applications in hetereogeneous catalysis. The group is currently working at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry  of the Ruhr University Bochum .

One focus of our research strategies aims at the development and utilization of novel heterogeneous catalysts based on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which are mainly tested in liquid phase target reactions (e.g. selective oxidation or CC and CX coupling reactions). In a complementary approach, new strategies are developed for the synthesis of supported transition metal catalysts, which are applied in energy-related applications, such as power-to-X conversions (e.g. methanation of carbon dioxide or synthesis of higher alcohols). Beside conventional synthesis methods (e.g. impregnation or (co-)precipitation), we are utilizing innovative methods for the preparation of bulk and supported catalyst materials, which include also solvothermal reactions and the controlled thermal decomposition of MOF-based precatalysts.
